OUR MINISTRY MANDATE

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

2 Timothy 4: 1 -5

Blessed are the Merciful for they shall obtain mercy

By | August 21, 2010

The dictionary defines mercy as “compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power; compassion, pity, or benevolence.”  Oftentimes it is associated with forgiveness, grace and love. Being merciful is the 5th Beatitude that Jesus mentioned in the Sermon on the mount. (Mathew 5:1 to 12)

So what does Jesus exactly mean when he says that the merciful are “blessed”  or “happy” “for the shall obtain mercy.” How is mercy contrasted with forgiveness, grace and love ? Is there a more deeper and profound meaning to mercy more than the dictionary definition ? How could mercy define if you are a true Christian or not ?

All of discussed this Sunday (August 22, 2010) as we continue our series on the book of Mathew, “The laws of the Kingdom Part 6 – Blessed are the Merciful for they shall obtain mercy.” We in Mathew 5:7. A slide presentation of the sermon is available below:
